HOT CARS & HOT CAKES

On November 10, 2013, we held our very first Sunday morning fundraiser called "Hot Cars & Hot Cakes". The foundations' fundraisers are used to help fund our racing efforts with PISS'D OFF PETE, improving the overall level of the sport of drag racing, as well as raising community awareness for two foundations which are dear to us.

After weeks of preparation, the exhibitions cars started arriving around 7:30 am at the FZOG building at Asteroiden weg. Shortly hereafter, we welcomed our first attendants. As we kept the entry fees at just Fls. 10,= for adults and Fls. 5,= for children (<12yrs) we hoped to attract a large number of guests.

Luckily all of the 7 exhibit cars invited were in attendance. These were:
1. Aston Martin V8 Vantage  (only class 1 entry)
2. Nissan GT-R
3. Audi R8
4. Porsche 987 Boxter RS
5. Corvette C6
6. Lotus Elise
7. Dodge Viper

Each exhibit had a custom made information plaque laid out in front of the car containing a short history about it's manufacturer, important details and memorable notes.

As the attendants walked around the property some looked at the cars and read up on their history and quick facts on the event brochure, other chose to have breakfast first and headed over to the Food and Beverage tent. Here they were greeted by our group of volunteers who served various kinds of juices along with the customary coffee or tea. Most of the cakes were provided by Pastrylicious who also had the best tasting cake: a Cheese Cake.

Key to the wonderful experience was the old tamarind tree which provided a great deal of shade. The dozen or so tables placed here  provided for a relaxing atmosphere to eat and chat away.
With the exception of Ham and Cheese tosties, which were Fls. 7,50, all other food items were just Fls. 5,=. All left overs were donated to the Felis foundation for kids of Otrobanda.

After having spared us for the entire morning, at 11 am which coincidentally was the time the event was scheduled to end, it started to rain. Luckily I had a big enough umbrella, the golfing kind, to keep the interior of the Dodge Viper dry.

In retrospect, the Hot Cars & Hot Cakes event was a success as we got twice as many attendants as expected, and most importantly, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

On behalf of the foundation, I would like to thank our sponsors for their support. These wonderful folk are: Bob Autowas, Leanez, Meguiars (Kuzeta), Kyoto Sushi & Grill, Tramm Imaging, TRES Networks, Western TiresVisuals Graphic Studio, and FulTrot blog. Photographer extra-ordinair Carlo Walle was also on hand and graciously documented the experience. Please support these persons and companies for they in turn support our events.

Thanks for reading and see you at the races.
